Las Vegas, Family Style
Casinos in the airport and roller coasters in the hotel

By Dion

I was very excited when my aunt told my sister and me that she was taking us to Las Vegas, Nevada. It would be the third vacation my aunt has taken us on. The three of us also went to Orlando, Florida and Nova Scotia in Canada. Because of my aunt, I’ve gotten to experience a lot and see places that people always talk about.

We left for Las Vegas at about 4 a.m. on September 1. I was pretty tired, but I was excited at the same time. I had heard so many stories about Vegas, but I wanted to experience it for myself. For example, my mother had told me that there were casinos in the airport, and then I saw them for myself when we landed. I was like, “She’s right!”

The ride from the airport to our hotel was so amazing, because we rode past all the hotels that I’d seen on the computer while I was Internet surfing about Vegas. When we finally got to our hotel, Circus Circus, I was happy both because I was tired and because a hotel like this was something new to me.

Like a Carnival

Our room was on the 29th floor, the top floor of the hotel. The hallways were like a maze, and it took about 20 minutes to find the room. Finally we got to the room, which had a great view of Vegas. We all settled down and relaxed.

Later on we went downstairs to look around the hotel, because the hotels in Vegas have attractions inside. Circus Circus actually has a whole amusement park. At first I said to myself, “How can a hotel have an amusement park inside of it?” But anything is possible. The Circus Circus amusement park was pretty awesome: It had roller coasters, water slides, games and rides.

Later, we ended up walking up the Vegas strip and it was like being in a movie. We walked pretty far and boy was it hot—I felt like I was sitting on the sun. By the time we got back to the hotel, the sun had gone down, to my relief. After dark is the best time to be in Vegas. You can see all the lights and it looks like a bigger version of Times Square.

Sharing Experience

I realized that you can never know what going to another state will be like. It may be similar to your own state in some ways and different in others, and that can be a great thing or a bad thing. It depends on what you make of the trip.

One of the best parts of the vacation was seeing my sister happy and experiencing new things with her. I think she was happy because she was with me, and it’s something new to her eyes as well as mine. I think this is an important part of our relationship because we’ll always have those memories to talk about.

These vacations also show me that my aunt really loves me. She doesn’t have to spend her time and money on me and my sister, and that’s something you don’t forget. It makes me happy to know that I have someone in my life who really cares about me and my sister.
