The
following pages include brief biographies of some of the
teens who have worked as writers or illustrators for Youth
Communication's two magazines, New
Youth Connections and Represent
(formerly Foster Care Youth United).
Note
to alumni: to correct or update
your listing, or if you'd like a new photo, or if you
prefer not to be listed, please e-mail
us. If you aren't listed now and would like to be
added, call Tom Brown, 212-279-0708 x100 and he'll send
you an alumni survey to complete.
About
the alumni: Youth Communication began in 1980; some
of our "alumni" are as young as 18, while those
who participated in our first workshops are nearing 40.
Thus, the alumni profiled in these bios are at many different
stages of life and career.
About
the bios: The information in the biographies is
taken primarily from annual surveys of our alumni. We've
made every effort to be as accurate as possible, but
inevitably we've made some mistakes in dates, job titles,
etc. Also, alumni are always getting new jobs and degrees.
So, these profiles are a sampling of our 1,500-plus
alumni and the kinds of things they are doing. Please
do not quote from them without contacting the individual.
About
the photos: Some of these photos are very "old";
that is, of the writer or illustrator alum when he or
she was a teen in our program. Others are recent. You
can usually tell by the hairstyle.
