Shawn
Dove
Shawn wrote for the very first issue of NYC in March of 1980.
He has a degree in English from Wesleyan University and received
a graduate degree in Education Administration from Teachers
College at Columbia University. He has been co-director of the
Countee Cullen Community Center at the Rheedlen Foundation,
where he founded Harlem Overheard, a teen-written community
newspaper. Currently he is director of the Creative Communities
Institute at the National Guild of Community Schools of the
Arts. He also launched Pocket Magic Books, a book publishing
company. |

Erin
Dozier
Erin received a Bachelor of Arts from Hampshire College and later earned a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center. She is currently an attorney practicing communications law at Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton in Washington, D.C. She also is an adjunct professor at Catholic University Columbus School of Law, where she teaches Electronic Mass Media Regulation and Policy. Erin was a writer and photographer at Youth Communication from 1987-88. |

Myrei Edwards-Smith
After graduating from Syracuse University with a double degree
in Journalism and African American Studies, Myrei earned an
MSW from Howard University. She is a clinical social worker
with the U.S. Public Health Service. She wrote for NYC in 1986-7. |

Michelle
Weston-Fequiere
Michelle has worked widely in TV, video, and web-based entertainment.
She attended Empire State College and has an interdisciplinary
degree (B.A.) in Media Studies & Music (1998). She also
attented Borough of Manhattan Community College receiving an
A.A.S in Broadcast, Mass Media & Communications in 1990.
Michelle worked as an audio engineer and technician for Amy
Goodman's Democracy Now. She was an associate producer for Barbara
Fenton's Tell Me Something Good TV show. She's worked on many
social issues projects as a member of the Video Works Collective
at the CUNY Graduate School of Media Studies. Michelle is also

Allen
Francis
Allen, an NYC writer during 1993-95, graduated from Marymount
Manhattan College with a degree in English. He has done foreign
exchange scholarship work in Germany, Canada, San Francisco,
and the Czech Republic. He is the assistant director and coordinator
of academics in the Higher Educational Opportunity Program at
Marymount College. |

Jonna
Gallo
Jonna wrote for NYC in 1988. She majored in philosophy and journalism
at Ohio Wesleyan, where she won the William Diem Award for Outstanding
Journalism Graduate. She is currently senior writer at Family
Circle Magazine, having held various positions there since 1992.
She is pursuing a graduate degree in writing at New York University's
School of Continuing Education. |

Jamal
Greene
While an undergraduate at Harvard University, Jamal was associate
sports editor at The Crimson and also interned at Sports Illustrated.
After graduating with a degree in economics Jamal was hired
as a sportswriter at Sports Illustrated. He wrote for NYC during
1994-95. |

Kimberly
Hackett
Kimberley wrote for NYC in 1989. After graduating from Marist
College with a degree in English, she wrote for several publications
in the Hudson River valley. She has done marketing and editorial
work for Charles Scribners and Simon Schuster, and was a senior
editor at West Group. She is currently a freelance copy editor
and editorial advisor in Pensacola, Florida. |

Shakti Hakim
Aisha is an Special Education Elementary Teacher in Brooklyn and an essayist whose work was published in the anthology Listen Up: Voices From the Next Feminist Generation. She is earning an MS in Special Education from Long Island University. Aisha graduated magna cum laude from City College with a BA in Developmental Disabilities. She wrote for NYC in 1987-88. |
