Circulation Jumps to 44,000; Regular Publication Schedule Begins; School System Recognizes Program: In January 1981, we begin publishing eight issues of NYC during the school year. A marketing project increases circulation to 44,000 by June. The school system allows students to receive school credit for their work on the magazine. NYC is becoming established as the voice of New York teens. Two full-time adult staff, Keith Hefner and Tony McGinty, are directing the program.

Media Coverage: New York Times education columnist Fred Hechinger writes that NYC is "an effective voice for the young."
